Tanveer Akhter Hossain Khan is an accomplished professional with a 23-year career spanning audit, accounts, and Public Financial Management (PFM) reforms. Currently serving as the Senior Finance Controller, he previously held the position of Director General at the Civil Audit Directorate, where he oversaw the audit of the Ministry of Finance. Tanveer joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Audit and Accounts) as part of the 20th Batch in May 2001 and has since held key roles, including Chief Accounts and Finance Officer for both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs andMinistry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. His other significant positions include Director of the Foreign Aided Projects Audit Directorate, Director of MIS at OCAG, Director of the Performance Audit Directorate, and Deputy Director in multiple audit directorate such as Local and Revenue Audit, Foreign Aided Projectand Defense Audit.During his career, Tanveer was on lien as a Senior Consultant for the SPFMS program at the Ministry of Finance, funded by the World Bank, from January 2020 to February 2024. He also contributed to the development of the Ministry Budget Framework (MBF) for the Ministry of Industry under the MTBF budgeting system in FY 2006-2007.
Mr. Tanveer Akhter Hossain Khan holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Master of Arts in Development and Governance, completed with joint support from KDI, Harvard Universityand BRAC University. He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and a Master of Commerce in Management, both from Dhaka University. His early education took place at University Laboratory School and College, Dhaka.Throughout his extensive professional career, Mr. Khan has participated in numerous training programs both domestically and internationally. These programs have covered a wide range of topics, including audit, accounts, fiscal affairs, finance, banking, and international trade, further enhancing his expertise in these fields. He has received extensive training in several countries, including South Korea, Japan, Luxembourg, China, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, and India, through various programs organized by INTOSAI and ASOSAI. In addition to his training, he also served as an ASOSAI trainer specializing in performance audit, further solidifying his expertise in the field. He is also a regular trainer at several prestigious institutions, including the Financial Management Academy (FIMA), National Institute of Population Research and Training (NIPORT), Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Local Government Rural Development (LGRD) Training Institute, Public Health Engineering Department Training Instituteand the Institute of Public Finance (IPF). His involvement in these institutions highlights his dedication to capacity building and knowledge sharing in the areas of finance, audit, and public financial management.
During his tenure, Mr. Tanveer Akhter Hossain Khan conducted several notable performance audits that were presented before Parliament. These include the Environment Audit on Food Safety, the MTBF System Audit on the Ministry of Forest and Environment, audits on Hospital WasteManagement, and Land Management. Additionally, he led revenue audits for both the Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) for tax and LTU VAT, successfully influencing systemic improvements and helping recover uncollected revenue. As a consultant, Mr. Khan played a crucial role in enhancing financial reporting systems to ensure compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). Furthermore, he is an International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI) facilitator, currently referred to as an INTOSAI Framework of Professional Pronouncement (IAPP) facilitator, underscoring his expertise in international audit practices.
Mr. Tanveer Akhter Hossain Khan has also been involved in auditing overseas missions and financial institutions representing Bangladesh in countries such as the USA, Japan, Nepal, Bahrain, India, and Brunei. This international auditing experience further demonstrates his broad expertise and capacity to handle complex financial and audit operations on a global scale.
He is also actively involved in developing training curricula and materials for institutions such as FIMA, NIPORT and the LGRD Training Institute. Additionally, he has publications on topics related to audit, accounts, and Public Financial Management (PFM).Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Khan has an insatiable appetite for reading and enjoys listening to music in his leisure time.
He is happily married and a proud father of one son. His wife, Umme Shahida Binte Alam, is a banker and an enlisted singer for BTV. Their son, Aymaan Hossain Khan, is currently a student in class nine at St. Joseph International School.
